These are instructions for 2005 1040 SCHEDULE A Itemized Deductions & SCHEDULE B Interest and Ordinary Dividends.

Schedule A—Itemized Deductions

Use Schedule A (Form 1040) to figure your itemized deductions. In most cases, your federal income tax will be less if you take the larger of your itemized deductions or your standard deduction.

If you itemize, you can deduct a part of your medical and dental expenses and un-reimbursed employee business expenses, and amounts you paid for certain taxes, interest,contributions, and miscellaneous expenses. You can also deduct certain casualty and theft losses.

If you and your spouse paid expenses jointly and are filing separate returns for 2005, see Pub. 504 to figure the portion of joint expenses that you can claim as itemized deductions.

Schedule B—Interest and Ordinary Dividends

Use Schedule B (Form 1040) if any of the following applies:

Had over $1,500 of taxable interest.

Any of the Special Rules listed in the instructions for line 1 apply to you.

Claiming the exclusion of interest from series EE or I U.S. savings bonds issued after 1989.

Had over $1,500 of ordinary dividends.

Received ordinary dividends as a nominee.

Had a foreign account or you received a distribution from, or were a grantor of, or transferor to, a foreign trust. Part III of the schedule has questions about foreign accounts and trusts.
